	Is root pressure the crucial factor to control tipburn in head lettuce? ►
	Low night-time relative humidity promotes tipburn in butterhead lettuce. This has been demonstrated in a recent experiment in the greenhouse facilities of Inagro. A new experiment should now reveal the role of root pressure in the occurrence of tipburn. Read more ►
	Project ‘MushTV’ aims at solutions for the mushroom industry to emerging disease threats from Trichoderma and Virus X. ►
	The MushTV-project aims at providing mushroom businesses with research-based solutions to deal with Trichoderma aggressivum, Mushroom Virus X (MVX) and other common mushroom diseases. As a basis for integrated pest management (IPM), the project will study epidemiology of the target organisms, will deliver improved diagnostics and will select useful disinfectants and biopesticides. 	Inagro invests in incubator ►
	The purchase of an incubator or a growth chamber offers Inagro new opportunities for its research purposes. Environmental parameters as temperature, relative humidity and intensity of the light can be adjusted depending on the test organism. This allows repetition of experiments in exactly the same environmental conditions. Read more ►
	Relative humidity key element in climatological control of downy mildew ►
	Reduction of the relative air humidity in greenhouses can reduce the disease pressure of downy mildew (Bremia lactucae). Field trials and lab experiments have shown that a high relative humidity is supportive for the development of the pathogen. Recent studies are focusing on the development of an advice system with critical values of the relative humidity for specified time periods. Read more ►

	The Provincial Research and Information Centre for Agriculture and Horticulture (POVLT) and its non-profit organizations merged into an external autonomous agency (EAA) of the Province West Flanders and was named ‘inagro’. The unified structure ensures an even better service to the agricultural and horticultural sectors. Read more ►
	TIPRELET: towards a rational strategy to prevent tipburn in lettuce ►
	The TIPRELET-project aims to reveal the mystery of tipburn in lettuce and to propose rational measures to prevent it. In this Agricultural Research project (IWT-080499), special attention is paid to plant behaviour by monitoring the ecophysiological response to its environment. Read more ►
	Lack of physiologically active calcium indicates high susceptibility to tipburn ►
	Young developing leaves need a calcium content of at least 2 g/kg dry weight in order to build viable cells without tipburn symptoms. This was confirmed by own measurements of physiologically active calcium in the inner leaves of butterhead lettuce. In future experiments, several climate control strategies to enhance the calcium supply to these inner leaves will be evaluated in order to develop a sustainable strategy to prevent tipburn, which is the final goal of the TIPRELET-project.
